Idera Acquires Assembla for Source Code Management
November 05, 2018

Idera announced the acquisition of Assembla, a cloud-centric, scalable and secure source code management provider.

Assembla will join Idera's Developer Tools business, which also includes Embarcadero, Whole Tomato, Sencha and Froala.

Assembla provides enterprise cloud version control, a mission-critical component of developing and shipping software. The company offers version control systems-as-a-service (VCSaaS) for Git, Perforce and Subversion, as well as package management services for npm, NuGet, Bower, Maven, PHP and more.

Founded in 2005, Assembla has more than 5,500 customers across 157 countries, including Deutsche Telekom, Bayer, Kellogg’s, Oracle, Unity, Disney, Apple, Marketo and Salesforce. The company’s platform evaluates these organizations’ software projects to minimize or eliminate vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers.

tanas Popov, GM of Idera’s Developer Tools business unit. “Idera’s tens of thousands of developer customers will now have a first-class, fully-integrated VCS system to use with their favorite languages and IDEs. In addition, Assembla customers will benefit from Idera’s increased scale and product development resources.”

The acquisition provides an important new connection between Idera’s developer and testing tools capabilities, including TestRail and Ranorex. For example, Ranorex automated testing tool users can incorporate Assembla’s automated source code scanning capability, while TestRail customers can add source code management to bolster their test management platform. In addition, Assembla will advance Idera’s capability in the fast-growing DevOps space and augment value delivery to customers.

“Assembla and Idera are a great fit,” said Paul Lynch, CEO of Assembla. “Joining Idera’s product portfolio will significantly increase our potential customer base and introduce us to numerous complementary tools that open the door to new sales opportunities.”
