Redis Enterprise Available on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
October 16, 2018

Redis Labs announced collaboration with Red Hat to make Redis Enterprise available as a hosted and fully-managed database service on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, with built-in support for Kubernetes Operators.

This collaboration enables joint customers to more quickly and easily deploy and manage the multi-model Redis Enterprise database as a stateful Kubernetes service, with a goal of enabling customers to automate database management, streamline operations, deliver cloud portability and simplify application development.

Enterprises are increasingly delivering superior customer experience by leveraging cloud-native architectures that scale elastically and can be updated continuously. Red Hat recently introduced Kubernetes Operators as an open source community project to help reduce the complexity of cloud-native applications. This framework extends the Kubernetes API and simplifies overall operations by creating, configuring and managing complex stateful applications that can function without human intervention.

With its native support for the Operator Framework, Redis Enterprise enables users to create, configure and manage Redis as a stateful service on Kubernetes. This is designed to relieve developers from operational tasks such as provisioning, maintenance, upgrades and backup/failure recovery and enables IT operations to operate more efficiently with a declarative blueprint. Now, developers can more quickly build, test and deploy modern applications at scale and roll out upgrades with zero downtime. Moreover, Kubernetes Operators enable cloud portability, which empowers users to run Redis Enterprise anywhere, whether on-premises or across any public, hybrid or private cloud deployments.

“Redis Enterprise delivers a powerful database platform for the most sophisticated use cases to meet the demands of the modern digital enterprise,” said Tal Dagan, VP of Product Management at Redis Labs. “With this collaboration, we are bringing the benefits of the Red Hat Operator framework to Redis Enterprise for a portable, manageable and certified solution that is enterprise ready and orchestrated by Kubernetes. This new offering creates value for our joint customers automating deployment and operations and combining analytical and transactional processing with native interoperability for handling different types of data within a single platform.”

“With the power of Kubernetes Operators, ISVs within the Red Hat ecosystem, like Redis Labs, can automate their services at scale in a Red Hat OpenShift environment,” said Chris Morgan, Director, Technical Marketing, Red Hat Cloud Platforms. “Operators are designed to enable OpenShift to not only be a priority deployment target for ISV solutions, but a catalyst to empower those solutions to operate on OpenShift as they would on the public cloud in terms of maintainability, flexibility, and upgradeability.”

Redis Enterprise for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is available now.
