Red Hat Delivers Unified Integration Platform for Cloud-Native Application Development
February 13, 2019

Red Hat announced an expansion of its integration product portfolio with new components and capabilities for connecting applications, data and devices across hybrid architectures. The additions are featured in the latest release of Red Hat Integration, and include Red Hat AMQ Online, Red Hat AMQ Streams, new connectors for Red Hat Fuse Online, and end-to-end application programming interface (API) lifecycle support.

Building on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, these technologies are designed to weave together critical integration and messaging capabilities with a cloud-native toolchain to provide a unified end-to-end experience, from design to development, deployment and management.

Messaging enables applications to exchange data with each other while at the same time insulating the system from potential service interruptions or implementation changes. AMQ Online, now available, is designed to deliver the same powerful connectivity capabilities of Red Hat AMQ with the speed and flexibility of a cloud-based service. This is designed to provide developers with on-demand self-service messaging capabilities through a browser, enabling them to provision and scale application messaging when and where they need it.

Red Hat Integration now includes AMQ Streams, a high-performance data streaming capability in Red Hat AMQ that is designed to bring speed and scale to event-driven microservices environments. Based on the Apache Kafka open source project, AMQ Streams has been optimized for running on OpenShift Container Platform where it can take advantage of OpenShift Operators to automate the deployment, management, upgrades and configuration of a Kafka ecosystem installation.

Red Hat’s low-code integration Platform-as-a-Service (iPaaS) offering, Fuse Online, now includes predefined connectors for enterprise data sources, including Google Calendar and Slack, enabling the platform to send and receive related events and messages; Apache Kafka, to help connect to data streams; and, available as a technology preview, access to Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR)-based healthcare data.

Predefined connectors like these, as well as the more than 200 connectors already available through Red Hat Fuse, enable users to more quickly integrate enterprise data sources into their application environment.

As building blocks underpinning today’s hyperconnected economy, APIs can shift the way organizations conduct business in the digital era. The ability to more quickly deliver API-centric services and solutions can help businesses accelerate innovation and time-to-market.

To better enable organizations to meet this need, Red Hat Integration adds support for the API lifecycle, including:

- Design, using a web-based API designer that implements the OpenAPI 2.0 specification;

- Development, augmented by the ability for users to kickstart their API development by generating an implementation from either new or preexisting API definitions;

- Deployment as cloud-native services within OpenShift Container Platform, extending connectivity across hybrid and multicloud environments;

- Management – APIs deployed in OpenShift Container Platform can be discovered and managed

In addition, Red Hat Integration now includes a command line interface that enables customers to use orchestration/provisioning tools like Red Hat Ansible Automation to configure their Red Hat 3scale API Management implementations.

Red Hat Integration is a set of agile and flexible integration and messaging technologies that are designed to provide API connectivity, data transformation, service composition and orchestration, real-time messaging, cross-datacenter message streaming, and API management to connect apps across hybrid cloud architectures and enable API-centric business services.

Red Hat Integration is generally available today.
