Exadel announced the Grand Prize winner of the “Appery.io COVID-19 Virtual Hackathon.”
Katerina Zhadko, a freelance front-end developer based in Europe, was awarded First Place in the Hackathon which ran from April 22, 2020 to May 6, 2020. Zhadko’s winning app, “COVID-19 Knowledge Test,” aims to evaluate the degree of a user’s knowledge regarding COVID-19 and increase the level of COVID-19 information literacy.
Using Appery.io, a low-code application development platform created by Exadel, participants were asked to build applications that help groups and businesses most impacted by COVID-19. Developers from around the world submitted apps for consideration and a panel of experts judged each submission based on a detailed set of criteria.
Hackathon prizes were awarded as follows:
1. First-Place - $1,000 and an Appery.io Annual Pro Subscription
2. Second-Place - $500 and an Appery.io Annual Pro Subscription
3. Third-Place - $250 and an Appery.io Annual Pro Subscription

Additional submissions included:
- A social vulnerability app that tracks self-reported COVID-19 test results and downstream impacts including mental health, economic, housing and other specific needs.
- A health monitor app that connects doctors and patients. Patients can update their symptoms, notifying doctors of changes in their condition without needing to meet face to face.
- A relaxation app intended to keep users calm during the pandemic. The app features a number of timed meditation exercises as well as an assortment of relaxing nature sounds to aid in sleep.
- A navigation app called Walks2Go that provides interesting walking routes to people looking to get out of their house in a controlled and safe manner.
