SurrealDB announced the launch of Surreal Cloud, a Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) offering.
In its first iteration, enterprises now have access to a fully managed solution for developers that want to leverage the power and flexibility of SurrealDB without the complexities of managing infrastructure. Surreal Cloud redefines the database experience, helping businesses reach unparalleled levels of scale and resilience.
“The launch of Surreal Cloud marks a major milestone in our journey to deliver a powerful, cloud-managed service. What started as a waitlist two years ago, following requests from the community, now emphasizes the demand and eagerness of developers to get their hands on Surreal Cloud,” said CEO and Co-Founder Tobie Morgan Hitchcock. “This is just the beginning – there’s much more innovation to come. With Surreal Cloud we give developers and enterprises the ability to build innovative applications while we take the burden of database complexity away by handling the underlying infrastructure.”
A multi-model database has the features of multiple data models and databases built into a single product that uses a single query language. In fact, SurrealDB can replace 10 or more products and services with its one multi-model database. This removes much of the complexity for developers so they can focus on what they do best – build great applications. With today’s introduction of Surreal Cloud, developers get the same functionality in a fully managed S3-backed environment that delivers the best price/performance for any workload and automated data lifecycle management that can store massive amounts of frequently, infrequently, or rarely accessed data in a cost-efficient way.
Surreal Cloud ensures organizations no longer need to worry about infrastructure operations, monitoring, backups or capacity planning. It offers simplified deployment, allowing developers the space to focus on building great products and applications. Surreal Cloud offers a flexible and cost-effective solution for large-scale data processing, for both transactional and analytical use cases. Enterprises can run computational workloads on data stored in low-cost object storage while dynamically scaling out compute resources.
Surreal Cloud seamlessly integrates with Surrealist, the graphical user interface for SurrealDB that provides developers a visual way to manage their database. By offering a more efficient way to interact with SurrealDB, Surrealist makes performing tasks like executing queries, exploring records, designing schemas and managing connections more intuitive. The user-friendly interface offers robust tools to enhance an organization’s database management to ensure optimal performance, whether it be a beginner user playing around in the sandbox or an enterprise user managing their cloud environment. Those using both SurrealDB and Surreal Cloud can manage both products using just one seamless interface. In addition, Surreal Cloud includes the new Surreal Sidekick, a personal AI assistant to help with all things Surreal. Developers who need help building applications can ask Surreal Sidekick questions and it will search the library of freely available documentation and respond with an answer.
Other key benefits for Surreal Cloud include:
- Scalability: Scalable architecture allows organizations to grow from prototype to enterprise-scale, so that as a database grows so can its applications, automatically scaling resources to handle changing workloads.
- ACID Compliant: Allows developers to run transactions across multiple rows, and across multiple different tables with no limit to the length of time a transaction can run.
- Workload Isolation: Enables the compartmentalization of workloads for different departments or projects within an organization while ensuring all teams access a consistent, shared data repository. This eliminates the need for slow and costly ETL jobs and redundant data marts.
Surreal Cloud is now available in its beta phase, offering users the opportunity to explore its features, share feedback, and play an active role in shaping its future development.
